In 1965, William Spencer began his career as Loan Officer for
Bankers Mortgage Company, based in Sacramento, California.
There he had the opportunity to work with and learn from Ray
Lapin, who later became the first Director for the Federal
National Mortgage Association (Fannie-Mae). Spencer was a
leading mortgage banker in the firm within two years.
In 1970, Spencer opened his own mortgage banking firm, Sutter
Mortgage Corporation. Before long he was closing an average of 200 loans per month, specializing in spot loans, forward
takeout commitments and subdivision construction . He trained
loan officers and processors; was the underwriter for all loans
and granted the unusual authority by FNMA, FHMC, FHA
& VA to fund his own loan approvals immediately from his desk.
He merged this firm with a national bank.
In 1980, in the San Francisco Bay Area, William Spencer Financial was founded
and Spencer began arranging financing for commercial, industrial and agriculture real
estate with private, institutional and Small Business Administration (SBA) funds; selling and
purchasing loan portfolios for banks and arranging their participations. Today, he continues
to offer exceptional solutions to almost any real estate loan request, assisting both large and
small clients with simple and complex projects, with maximum effort to search out and obtain
the very best financing and conditions for each and every loan request.
